Prior to launching a UK tour of the show, the London production of Hairsprspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre is coming to a close on the 28th March 2010 following two and a half years of hair raising success.

Since opening in 2007 the feel-good musical has played over 1,000 performances to more than 1 million theatre goers, grossing over £50 million and became the longest running show at the Shaftesbury Theatre in more than 40 years.

Talking about the decision to close the show to the Official London Theatre Guide, the CEO of Hairspray producers, Stage Entertainment UK said “Every show, even a big, glorious hit show like this one, has a natural life and for now it is time for Hairspray to leave London. Margo Lion and the Broadway producers of Hairspray join Stage Entertainment in thanking every member of the company who has been involved in making it such a success and every audience member who joined us at the Shaftesbury theatre over its record-breaking run.”

For the final eight weeks of the show run musical theatre favourite Brian Conley will return to play Edna Turnblad alongside former Monkee, Micky Dolenz playing doting husband Wilbur. They join Chloe Hart, who continues to play dancing queen Tracy.

You will be able to catch Hairspray on tour in the following UK cities, Cardiff, Glasgow, Southampton, Wolverhampton, Leeds, Manchester, Plymouth, Liverpool, Sunderland, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Birmingham, Bradford and Edinburgh.

There are currently no products planned to move into the Shaftesbury Theatre once Hairspray has stopped the beat.
