A Money Back Guarantee At The Theatre?

22 June 2009 No Comment

A Money Back Guarantee At The Theatre?I was reading this article on the Guardian website yesterday which was talking about how a theatre organisation in Chicago, the Richard H Driehaus Foundation has started offering theatregoers to a new and controversial play El Grito Del Bronx a full refund if for any reason they don’t like the play.

In theory this sounds like a good idea and with a pot of $10,000 (£6,090 aprox) set aside for the scheme i’m sure there is more than enough to cover the cost but it does make me wonder could this kind of scheme be abused by those wanting to be entertained for the evening for free.

Looking at the idea behind the scheme it looks like they will be offering refunds by simply filling in a form to say why they weren’t happy – this could sensibly include uncomfortable seating, bad view, poor air conditioning someone snoring behind you etc – as reported by Adam Kenwright, managing director of the leading marketing and promotions agency AKA.

However would it be really fair to try and get a refund because it doesn’t suite your taste?

As incentive schemes to get people into the theatre I can see how this can work? could it translate well over here bearing in mind we brits don’t complain as much as other countries? And what would the limits of this scheme be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
